12-Tooth Green Plastic Spur Gear, 2.5 mm Bore, 13.5 mm Diameter

This spur gear transmits rotational motion through direct engagement of its straight-cut teeth with those of a compatible mating gear. Its central bore allows the gear to be mounted on a shaft or axle, enabling mechanical power transfer between parallel shafts. Gear engagement provides a means of controlling rotational direction, speed, and transmitted torque within a mechanical gear train.

Applications and Benefits:

  • Demonstrates gear ratios when combined with compatible gears having different numbers of teeth.
  • Supports speed reduction experiments in compact mechanical assemblies.
  • Demonstrates rotational speed increases when incorporated into suitable gear-driven configurations.
  • Illustrates torque transmission and the relationship between rotational speed and torque.
  • Demonstrates reversal of rotational direction between two externally meshed spur gears.
  • Supports mechanical power transmission demonstrations using interacting gear components.
  • Provides a compact, reusable mechanical component for science experiments and STEM activities.
  • Supports classroom engineering activities, mechanical demonstrations, and educational models.
  • Can be incorporated into small DC motor projects and motorized science models using appropriately sized shafts.
  • Supports robotics prototypes, hobby mechanisms, custom mechanical assemblies, and light-duty mechanical projects.
  • Can be mounted on appropriately sized axles, compatible project supports, and custom mechanical assemblies.
  • Allows students to investigate how gear tooth counts influence mechanical speed ratios and torque relationships.

Caution:

All dimensions are approximate and may vary due to manufacturing tolerances. Verify the shaft diameter, gear dimensions, and mounting fit before permanent installation. The nominal 2.5 mm center bore is intended for appropriately sized shafts and axles. A shaft slightly smaller than 2.5 mm may provide a loose fit, depending on actual bore tolerance. A nominal 2.5 mm motor shaft may provide a close or interference fit depending on material properties and manufacturing tolerances; a secure press fit is not guaranteed. This gear is not directly compatible with 3 mm or 1/8-inch axles without modification. The center bore may be carefully enlarged for a larger shaft only when sufficient material remains around the opening. Do not force installation if excessive resistance occurs, as this may crack or damage the plastic gear. Confirm compatibility with the mating gear and mounting assembly before operation. Intended for educational models, hobby projects, and light-duty mechanical applications only. Not designed for automotive, industrial, or high-load applications.
